Week 4 Reader's Response

(should be at least 3 paragraphs)

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in paragraph form, compare and contrast these two characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.

The book I'm reading is Percy Jackson Battle of The Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. My main character is Percy Jackson. He is a young teen boy that is 14. Some special things about him are that he is a Demi-god (half human, and half god) and has a really hard life. His personality is curios. During his whole life he has had to fight monsters but he has a magical sword to do so with.

The other book I'm reading is The Giver by Lois Lowry. My main character is Jonas. He is a young teen boy that is 12 years old. Some special things about him are that he is the receiver of memories which makes him a elder, one of the most important members in their Utopian society and there not supposed to have stirrings which means feelings for each other. His society has something they call sameness, they don't rely on technology, and they have family's that are not actually family. His personality is a thinker, caring, and a risk taker.

These two characters from my book's The Giver and Percy Jackson The Battle of The Labyrinth these characters are alike and different. There alike because they both are teenagers. They both play important roles in there societies too so they will both have to decide the fate of their worlds.

I think that the one that I identify with the most is Percy Jackson. I have more in common with him then i do with Jonas. The first likeness between us is that we are both 14 years old and where boys. He feels special like he is meant for something. We have the same personality as far as being curious and trying to be brave in every situation. So I guess I connect with the character Percy Jackson more than Jonas.

Week 3 RR? - Understanding my character(s)

Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:

-1. your main character's personality

- 2. how they act/behave

- 3. what they look like

- 4. how old they are

- 5 what sort of education do you think that they have!

- 6 who their friends and family are

- 7 what their financial (money) situation is

- 8 and what their job is (if they have one).

The book I'm reading is Percy Jackson The Battle of The Labyrinth by Rick Riordan and the main character is Percy Jackson. His personality is a mixture of cocky and brave. I know that he is brave because on page 22 it said, "There was no time to get help so I uncapped riptide my sword and charged onto the enormous Hell Hounds back side." He acts and behaves in many different ways but one usually prevails like when he goes into battle he doesn't always think his attacks through, but this also proves he is cocky.

My character is a boy with a muscular build, medium height, sandy brown hair and usually wears jeans a t-shirt and a celestial bronze chest plate. My character is 14. I know he is 14 because on page 26 it says, "You may only be 14 now but when your 16 you will decide our fate." Percy Jackson has had a really bad education because he switches schools so much and they get destroyed every year before he goes to camp so he doesn't learn much. His dyslexia doesn't help his education much either. His friends are a Demi-god girl named Annebeth, and a Satire named Grover.His family is a mom that's mortal, and a dad that's a god named Poseidon. His financial situation is good because his dad takes care of everything. He does not have a job because he is a young Demi-god so his dad Poseidon and the people at camp half-blood pay for all of the expenses.

Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. The cover that i would choose would be a gym with a crack down the middle and dodge balls rolling all over while a couple of cyclops stand on the other side of the gym throwing dodge balls at a boy and his friend while the boy holds a sword in one hand and the friend catching one of the flaming balls next to him. there would be cracks in the wall and many kids trying to run out the exit. At the top I would have the poster be called My Worst Day for a title.

march 17th blog. Quarter 4.

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what  page you first met the character on.

 I am reading The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. The copyright date is 2006 by Disney. The genre is Mythology. I know it is mythology because i was reading it and it revolves around gods, demi-gods, and mythical animals which do not exist in the known world.

There is a award at the top of the book that says "The New York Times#1 best-selling series" that they put there to try to get you to read it. The cover of the book looks like a giant yellow eye looking at a satire and two humans crossing a bridge. Below the bridge is  what looks like a  dark black ghost ship in a river of molten red lava. There is also a mist of hazy red around them. There is no words on the cover except for the title and the author, and the auther. This cover makes me want to read the book to see what such a place would look like and why everything is different colors of red.

The first character I met was Percy Jackson the son of a god Poseidon and a mortal woman. I met him on page one. He apparently is the chosen demigod child to tell whether the gods stay alive or are taken over. The second character I met was a homeless boy named Tyson, but you later find out he is a cyclops and Percy's half brother because he is claimed by Poseidon, I met him on page nine. The the third character i met was Annabeth, daughter of Athena. I met her on page twenty three. These characters are all very awesome because they all have very important things they must do for each other in this book.

So far in the book Percy and Tyson went to gym and three cyclops brothers attacked them then Annabeth showed up and took them away down an ally way because the cops where chasing after them. She then summoned the three witches cab driving and that brought them to camp half blood where the tree that protects the magical borders was poisoned and now monsters are attacking the camp. When the new camp leader would not let Percy take the quest to find the golden fleece(which is believed to be the only thing to save the magical borders) he gave it to another demi god so he Annabeth, and Tyson Ran away to go find it too.

 As we are reading poetry and looking at various parts of poems, can you notice some of the same figurative language in your independent reading? Using your notes from this week, give examples of each of the parts of figurative language we've been discussing.   You may not find all types. If you can’t find any, look at the poem you put on the moodle or the lyrics to your favorite song.  The chart attachment is at the bottom of this page 'Week 5 Blog', use it to set up your blog. 

     When reading my book outside of class I notice figurative language inside the text. There was personification on page # 10. It said "A harsh wind whistled and moaned at Jabbas palace." I had also found a simile on page # 57. It said "the yellow droid eye looked like a blazing sun." These where the only ones I found.

      We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently? Be sure to use complete sentences and EVIDENCE to support your thinking.

     The main character in my book is Luke, Callista, dorsik 81, Kip Duran, admiral Daula, Durga the hutt, and general Lemisk. I will Have to pick one main character and that is Luke's character. He fell in love with a Jedi woman named Callista. When he rescued her from the Eye of Palpition she lost her connection with the force, so he promised to help her get them back. I think if I fell in love with Callista I would help her find her Jedi connections just like he does try too. So he goes on a trip with her that is supposed to by alone time to learn and study why she cant get in touch with the force again but she thinks it is to romantic so he ends up taking her to where he learned the ways of the force.If I was in his shoes I would not have tried to be romantic I would help her find her powers and then be romantic and would have taken her to hoth where he grew the most using his powers. When the landed on hoth and herd screams I would have charged in there with my lightsaber and cut up the snow monsters,not walk slowly and calm like he did. This reminds me off the filth movie when he was always calm during a battle. During the battle I would have gone around cutting people up instead of being calm like he was. When they finally arrived on Yavin 4 I would have done exactly what he did which was gather all the Jedi and attack the Imperial ground forces. I guess that Luke and I would act different in some situation but act the same in others.

Star wars:Darksaber

     So far in my book there has been three problems. The first problem was that Durga the Hutt was building a ship that could blow up planets. I know this because he say " I will destroy the worlds of the republic by blowing them up with my new ship." They first ordered general lemesk to find computer cores. When lemesk finally did durga had bought so cheap of computers hat he could not fix them. Lemesk did not tell Durga this and finished building the ship. Princess Leia had noticed that he stole the death star plans and pretended not, meanwhile she moved half of her military near the Hoth system where Durga was building this super weapon. She pretended to have political meeting so she could put a tracker on his ship to find exactly where it was. she sent in a team of black ops to damage the ship. they damaged the ship but got killed. Lemesk fled the ship and was captured before it blew up. It blew up because the ship tried to shoot its laser canon at the other ship and the computer cores backfired.

      The second conflict was the problem off the woman known as admiral Daula. She was tired of all the war lords that controlled the once great Empire having a civil war and invited them to come together and swquash the Rebel Alliance. when all they could do was kill each other she killed all of them and took control of the empire to reunify it. She took in millions of solders and gigantic space cruisers. They then decided to let another general to take half the fleet and she would take the other half and go to yavin 4 to kill the Jedi and destroy there base. I knew she wanted to destroy the Rebel Alliance because she Say's that" I will destroy those rebels at any cost." I also connected when she wanted to hate someone with ever possible bit of energy. Two Jedi named Dorsic81 and Kip Duron saw what she was doing and went to the Jedi base to defend it and send a message to the new Republic to come help. By the time they arrive they could only send the signal and would have to fight for a couple of hours by them selves. When they realize it is a losing battle they transfer all there energy through Dorsik81 and force push the hole armada except for admiral Daulas ship. Dorsik 81 died in Kips arms because all that energy electrocuted him. Then luke and Callista arrive and they start winning. After their the Republics navy arrives and blows up Daulas ship and sends it into the yavin sun with Callista and admiral Daula onbord. They both get on excape pods but it doesn't tell you if Callista got out in time.

      The last and final conflict was luke trying to help Callista get back her Jedi powers. Callista is a very old Jedi that was trapped in the eye of palpitin for years and when luke got her out they fell in love, and her body is as young as it was when she got trapped but she came out with her Jedi powers blocked, so luke decided to help her reach them again. They first go to the top resort in the Galaxy and then she says it is to romantic so they go to Hoth at the old Echo base. When they reached the abandoned base they find three hunters trapped by snow monsters. I know this is the conflict because they say stuff like" this may be the end, go in peace." The snow monster that leading the attack on them is the one from the fifth movie with its arm chopped of and goes mainly for luke. After the battle they make it to there ship but the controlls had been ripped out and the life support destroyed along with  three hunters dead. luke killed his one armed rival and closed the door while taking off with no way to steer, so they sent out a message and the Millinon Falcon ship piloted by Han solo and Leia saved him and Callista and took them to yavin 4 to help in the battle. As you already know they won the battle on yavin 4. So as always the good side wins.
